Frightening ScenesMild Themes

Paddington in Peru is a warm, gentle family adventure that upholds loyalty, sacrificial love, and kindness as its core values. It is thoroughly appropriate for children and families and carries no content that should concern parents. While it lacks theological depth, its moral vision is consistently virtuous and it stands as one of the more wholesome wide-release films available for families.

Pastoral Take

Paddington in Peru is a genuinely lovely film that parents can watch with children of all ages without worry — it is one of the rare modern family films that earns its wholesome reputation rather than just assuming it. There is nothing to warn against here; the bigger opportunity is to use the film's themes of sacrificial love, loyalty, and treating strangers with dignity as a springboard for conversation about how those values show up in your own family and in Scripture. If your kids have enjoyed the previous Paddington films, this is a worthy continuation and an easy recommendation for a family movie night.

Discussion Points

  • 1Paddington travels all the way to Peru just to be with Aunt Lucy and make sure she's okay — even when it's dangerous and difficult. Can you think of a time when someone in the Bible made a really long or hard journey just to take care of someone they loved? What do you think that says about what it means to be family?
  • 2In the film, Paddington keeps treating people kindly even when they're rude or suspicious of him. Why do you think he does that? The Bible says in Romans 12 that we should 'overcome evil with good' — do you think Paddington's way of doing things matches that idea?
  • 3The villain in this movie is mostly motivated by wanting something for himself, no matter who gets hurt. Can you think of what the Bible says about greed? Do you think the way the movie shows what happens to him is fair?
  • 4Aunt Lucy spent years waiting patiently at the Home for Retired Bears, trusting that Paddington would come back. Does that remind you of anyone waiting or watching for someone they love in the Bible? What do you think it feels like to wait and trust like that?
