Pets 2 is a brief, gentle animated short clearly aimed at very young children, built around the simple premise of three animal friends watching television together and enjoying each other's company. It presents no theological content and no objectionable material whatsoever. Theologically it is a blank slate — harmless and warm, but offering little for older viewers or for meaningful spiritual conversation without a parent actively guiding the discussion.
Pastoral Take
Pets 2 is a thoroughly safe choice for toddlers and preschool-age children — there is nothing here that would trouble even the most cautious parent. It is a light, short animated piece better suited to keeping young ones occupied for an hour than to providing meaningful family discussion, so parents of older children may find little to engage with. If you do watch it with your little ones, it offers a natural opening to talk about gratitude for simple blessings and the gift of good friendships — both ideas a Christian parent can easily connect to what God says about contentment and community.
Discussion Points
- 1Bella, Bagel, and Alvin seem perfectly happy just sitting on the couch together doing something simple — they don't need a big adventure to have a good time. Can you think of a time when just being with someone you love was enough? Why do you think God gave us friends and family to enjoy?
- 2Alvin the parrot always has something to say and his own opinions about everything. Do you think being opinionated is always a good thing? What does the Bible say about listening to others, and when is it important to share what you think versus just being quiet and enjoying the moment?
- 3The three friends in this movie all seem very different — a laid-back cat, a goofy dog, and an opinionated parrot — but they still love spending time together. Why do you think God made people (and even pets!) so different from each other? What do you think those differences add to a friendship?
